When a beautiful day, a gorgeous couple, and incredible vendors combine, a stunning sailboat elopement editorial is the outcome.
About 10 years ago, I had the dream of doing a shoot on a sailboat. Living on the coast of Washington, I was surrounded by boats all the time. And being a wedding photographer, I was always dreaming of putting a bride and groom on a boat and sailing off in to the sunset. But then we moved to Montana, and I felt like that dream was gone. Until I realized that Flathead Lake is one of the largest bodies of water west of the Mississippi, and there were sailboats on the lake.
Through a lot of research and several pep talks, I decided to shoot my shot, and reached out to Big Sky Sails, LLC and presented him with my idea. Could I hire you for an evening, and do an editorial bridal shoot, as well as a more relaxed casual look? His response was “let’s make your dreams come true!”
As I started planning this out, I realized that I needed help in narrowing down my vision and my ideas. I had so many pins on my Pinterest board and so many different directions I could take the shoot, I was feeling overwhelmed. So I reached out to my friend Sarah, at SG Weddings and Events to see if she could step in, in an advisory role. But as we talked more about the shoot, I realized I needed Sarah and her vision on my team in a more involved way. And let me tell you, if you ever have the chance to work with Sarah, you will be so well taken care of, supported and encouraged.
I also knew that with a sailboat editorial, I had to have some arial shots. So I brought on the dynamic duo of Erickson Media, a killer videographer team based in Kalispell, Montana.
Lastly, we needed hair and make up, attire and florals. Chrystal, from Glow Salon MT graciously donated hair and makeup, Mimi’s Bridal in Kalispell allowed us to model a stunning Sophia Tolli gown, and a breezy summer suit, and Forage and Floral out of Columbia Falls donated a boutonniere and bouquet.
