Brant and Laura had an incredible September day for their destination wedding under the Big Sky at Rainbow Ranch Lodge. The couple traveled from out of state with their closest family and friends to celebrate becoming husband and wife in one of Montana’s most scenic locations. As a Bozeman wedding photographer, this whole day was a dream to be a part of.
Their luxury wedding weekend began a few days before the ceremony with a fun night out in town and a welcome party featuring a custom hat bar—an interactive experience that set the tone for an unforgettable celebration.
When the wedding day arrived, the atmosphere was calm, joyful, and relaxed. Laura got ready in the bridal cabin tucked along the Gallatin River, surrounded by her closest friends, while Brant prepared in the main lodge. The peaceful setting of Rainbow Ranch Lodge created the perfect backdrop for a serene and intimate morning.

An Intimate Ceremony Under the Big Sky
The day began with slow, meaningful getting-ready moments before Brant and Laura chose to share a first look ahead of the ceremony. As guests gathered on the front lawn of Rainbow Ranch Lodge, they were seated in a unique semi-circle arrangement that felt intimate and connected to the surrounding landscape.
Their ceremony was short, sweet, and deeply meaningful. The couple’s young son wandered through the ceremony, creating the sweetest candid moments and heartfelt memories.
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a warm cocktail hour before heading into the on-site tent for a beautifully plated dinner—an elevated experience that reflected the couple’s luxury vision.

Dreamy Sunset Portraits & Evening Celebration
As sunset approached, we crossed the river to a nearby field for golden hour portraits. The soft Montana light and sweeping mountain views made for dreamy, cinematic images that truly captured the magic of a destination mountain wedding in Big Sky. As a Bozeman wedding photographer, I live for quieter moments with just the couple, the sunset and the quintessential Big Sky of Montana.
After sunset, Brant and Laura returned to their reception for cake cutting, special dances, and an evening filled with laughter, celebration, and heartfelt moments as they kicked off their next adventure together.

Colorful Wildflower-Inspired Wedding Design
Brant and Laura incorporated vibrant color throughout their wedding day. Their ceremony florals were inspired by Montana’s summer wildflowers, while the reception tent featured light purples, lush greens, and bold pops of orange.
The result was a design that felt organic, elevated, and seamlessly connected to the surrounding landscape—bringing the outdoors into the vaulted tent in a sophisticated and luxurious way.

The Role of a Second Photographer
For this wedding, I had the opportunity to serve as a second photographer for Danielle of Danielle Mullens Photography. Being a second shooter is a role I truly love—it allows me to support another talented photographer while capturing additional perspectives of the day.
Typical responsibilities of a second photographer include:
Having a second photographer ensures no moment goes unnoticed.
Should You Have a Second Photographer at Your Wedding?
If you’re deciding whether to include a second photographer, here are a few key things to consider:
If You’re Doing a First Look
If you plan to do a first look, a second photographer is incredibly valuable. One photographer can be with each partner during getting ready, and during the first look, both reactions and emotions can be captured simultaneously.
If You’re NOT Doing a First Look
A second photographer is essential. They help maintain separation before the ceremony and can cover cocktail hour while your lead photographer focuses on family portraits and couple portraits after the ceremony.
Storytelling & Perspective
A second photographer adds depth and dimension to your wedding gallery. Multiple perspectives mean more candid moments, guest reactions, and storytelling details.
A Smoother, More Relaxed Day
Two photographers allow timelines to run more efficiently, reducing stress and giving you more time to enjoy your wedding day.
Brant and Laura’s destination mountain wedding at Rainbow Ranch Lodge was a beautiful reminder of why couples are drawn to Montana for their wedding weekends. From the peaceful riverside morning to the golden sunset portraits across the Gallatin River, every part of their day felt intentional, relaxed, and deeply connected to the landscape. Big Sky’s wide-open skies, mountain views, and natural textures provided a stunning backdrop for a celebration that felt both elevated and effortless—exactly what many couples envision when planning a luxury mountain wedding experience.
One of the most meaningful parts of documenting their day was seeing how thoughtfully they designed the entire wedding weekend for their guests. With onsite lodging, a welcome party, group adventures, and a seamless wedding day timeline, Brant and Laura created an immersive experience that allowed their loved ones to slow down, connect, and celebrate together. That sense of shared experience is what makes destination weddings so special, and Rainbow Ranch Lodge offered the perfect setting to bring their vision to life.
Being part of this wedding as a second photographer reinforced how valuable multiple perspectives can be in telling the full story of a wedding day. From quiet, emotional moments to big, joyful celebrations, having a thoughtful photography team ensures no detail goes unnoticed. If you’re planning a destination mountain wedding in Montana or dreaming of an elevated wedding weekend surrounded by nature, I’d love to be your Montana wedding photographer and help capture your story in a way that feels timeless, intentional, and true to you.
