Tucked beneath the sweeping peaks of the Grand Tetons, right along the border of Idaho and Wyoming, sits the small mountain community of Alta, affectionately called “Wydaho” by locals. Just outside of Jackson Hole, this corner of the valley is known for its wide-open skies, quiet beauty, and endless opportunities for adventure. For Andrew and Ellie, it was more than just a beautiful setting for a Grand Teton wedding — it was home, and the perfect place to begin their marriage.
As a luxury wedding photographer, I love weddings like this. Where the couple chooses to get married in a place that not only is meaningful to them and their future, but a place that also holds meaning from their past.
Their story began in 2021 after meeting on Hinge, and it didn’t take long for their shared love of the outdoors to shape their relationship. Skiing fresh powder, hiking alpine trails, camping under star-filled skies, and mountain biking through the surrounding landscapes of Jackson Hole became the rhythm of their time together. It was on one of those mountain bike rides, with the Tetons glowing pink at sunset, that Andrew dropped to one knee and asked Ellie to marry him.
For their wedding day, they chose a location that meant even more: Ellie’s childhood home. Set against one of the most breathtaking views in the Teton Valley, the property offered an unobstructed view of the Grand Tetons an incredible backdrop for a Grand Teton wedding celebration. The choice felt deeply personal and meaningful, tying together family history, the landscape they love, and the start of their marriage.
One of the most meaningful moments of the day unfolded quietly before the ceremony began. Ellie lost her biological father when she was young, and she took a few private moments with a photograph of the two of them before seeing anyone else. Soon after, she shared a first look with her brothers, asking them to carry the photo throughout the day so their dad could be close in spirit for every moment that followed.

She then turned to greet her stepfather in a heartfelt first look of their own. The room filled with emotion as these relationships came together in such a thoughtful way. It was a beautiful reminder that a wedding day holds space not only for celebration, but also for honoring the people who helped shape our lives. There were more than a few tears.
If you are lucky enough to know Ellie, you know she brings color wherever she goes. She’s joyful, thoughtful, and deeply genuine and her wedding day reflected that beautifully. Colorful wildflowers were woven throughout the celebration, softening the dramatic mountain backdrop. One of the most unique touches was inviting guests to create their own wildflower bouquets for the reception tables. It was interactive, meaningful, and completely true to who they are.

Andrew and Ellie were equally intentional about making every guest feel included. After the ceremony, they greeted everyone in a receiving line before inviting each table to join them for photos and conversation ahead of dinner. The entire day felt less like a production and more like a gathering, relaxed, joyful, and full of connection.
Summer weddings in Jackson Hole and the Tetons always come with a bit of unpredictability when it comes to weather. The day before the wedding, wildfire smoke had rolled into the valley, completely hiding the usually unobstructed views of the Tetons. But just before the ceremony began, the sky cleared and the mountains reappeared in full clarity, almost as if they had been waiting for the right moment.
Later that evening, the weather shifted again. Wind picked up, rain rolled in, and guests wrapped themselves in borrowed jackets and blankets from the house. While sunset portraits weren’t in the cards, we leaned into the changing weather and created romantic, wind-swept images that felt perfectly true to the setting: a little wild, a little adventurous, and completely unforgettable.

The style of the day blended effortlessly with the landscape. The men wore navy suits with green ties that echoed the alpine tones surrounding them. Ellie chose a modern off-the-shoulder gown from the Mikaella collection by Paloma Blanca, featuring soft draping and a row of covered buttons trailing down the train. It felt timeless and refined against the dramatic mountain backdrop. Her bridesmaids wore floral gowns by Jenny Yoo, adding movement and color that beautifully complemented the wildflowers and scenery.
There were so many standout moments throughout the day: Andrew’s face as he saw Ellie walking down the aisle, the emotion during the toasts, and the way the two of them truly soaked in every part of their celebration. What made the day so memorable wasn’t just the scenery or the details — it was the way Andrew and Ellie fully experienced it all.
Selfishly, one of my favorite moments happened as I was getting ready to leave for the night. I found Ellie to say goodbye, and she immediately pulled me into the biggest hug. She then took my face in her hands and offered the most genuine words of thanks and encouragement. I actually teared up. Moments like that remind me just how special it is to be invited into a day like this as a luxury wedding photographer.
As a luxury wedding photographer, part of my role is anticipating what might happen before it does. Knowing how unpredictable mountain weather can be in Jackson Hole and the Teton Valley, I made sure we captured Andrew and Ellie’s portraits earlier in the day, a decision that proved incredibly valuable once the evening storm rolled in. It’s always a balance of creativity and awareness, especially when photographing weddings in landscapes as dynamic as the Tetons.
Andrew and Ellie began their marriage surrounded by mountains, family, and a deep sense of home. It was elegant without feeling overdone, meaningful without feeling staged, a celebration that felt entirely like them.
Weddings like this, personal, intentional, and set against extraordinary landscapes, are the kind of celebrations I feel deeply honored to document. As a luxury wedding photographer, my work is centered on creating timeless imagery that preserves not only how a wedding day looked, but how it truly felt. If you are planning a Jackson Hole wedding, a Grand Teton wedding, or a mountain wedding anywhere in Wyoming, Montana, or the greater West, I would love to help tell your story.
