East Glacier Summer Engagement
Photographing in East Glacier is always a thrill. With the mountains of Two Medicine standing guard, and the wildflowers showing off, it was a joy to photograph this engagement session in Glacier National Park this summer.
Cole and Emma made the trek from Texas to spend a weekend in Glacier National Park celebrating their engagement, and the start of summer. During our planning emails, Emma expressed how they would love to try and take photos at Big Bend, a stunning view spot in Glacier. I explained that that would be option one, but we were left to the park’s decision on when Going to the Sun Road would open. Through a few back and forth emails, Emma ended up writing a photographer’s favorite words: “You are the expert. We trust your judgement on where to go!” Cue the excited squeal and the happy dance! While our plan to photograph at Big Bend didn’t pan out, we spent our time on the East Side of Glacier, along the shore of Pray Lake, and overlooking the Two Medicine valley.
After caravaning around the park to East Glacier, we properly introduced ourselves, and Emma shared a little secret with me. She and Cole had actually been married in a civil service the day before, and their engagement photos were now their first photos as a married couple! After an appropriate amount of “oh my goodness-ing!”, we got to work.
Our first stop was an overlook that gives some of the most stunning views of the Two Medicine valley. The mountains were perfectly snow capped, the wind gave us just a kiss of movement and the wildflowers were the best addition to our photos.
After we were done at the lookout, we moved down to Pray Lake, for a scene change and outfit change. Guys, I have never seen someone look as good in a power suite as Emma did! Surprisingly, Pray Lake was hardly windy at all, and we mostly had the shoreline to ourselves. We ended our time along the lake, and on the bridge over Two Medicine Creek.
The joy and giddiness of these two was palpable, and made my job so easy. With some clear direction to get the ball rolling, Cole and Emma relaxed into our session, and just let the thrill of being in Glacier, and the excitement of being newlyweds wash over them. We had a great time laughing, and being silly, and just enjoying the immense beauty of Glacier National Park in the summer.
